COMBINATION STRATEGY:
For a complete description of combination strategy, please refer to the report
posted on CDDIS (IGS07597.SUM).
SOFTWARE:
The weighted average software used was developed by T. Springer and
G. Beutler during 1993. The GPS long arc orbit analysis software used here for
individual centre ephemeris evaluation was developed by Beutler et al. at the
Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern (AIUB). For more details on
the orbit combination and complete references for both software see:
Beutler, Kouba, Springer, 1993, Combining orbits of the IGS processing
centres, in IGS Analysis Centre Workshop, October 12-14, Ottawa, pp 19-55.
PRODUCTS GENERATED:
The resulting average ephemeris and clocks are output to daily files in SP3
format. The satellite accuracy codes displayed in the header are based on the
weighted RMS for each satellite. Note that each file contains all the
satellites that appear in any of the centre ephemeris files. If a satellite or
centre was excluded from combination, a note in the REMARKS section of this
report will identify the exclusion and the reason.
The Rapid Service Orbit files generated and uploaded into CDDIS @ NASA/GSFC
are:
IGS07590-6.SP3 IGS GPS ephemeris files for days 0-6, week 0759 in SP3 format.
IGS07597.ERP Earth rotation parameters (ERP) associated with ephemerides.
IGS07597.SUM Complete report.
REMARKS on IGS Rapid Service Orbit Combination:
1. Starting with week 0730, the above satellite clock correction combination
was put in place. The centres used in the combination are EMR, ESA, GFZ and
JPL. The other centres are excluded because they either provide broadcast
clocks (COD, NGS) or clock corrections are not provided (SIO). The clock
information not used is still compared to combination for completeness.
The value of 999999.999999 microseconds, according to the sp3 format
convention, is used to signify that no clock solution is available and
therefore must not be used.
2. Only the GFZ "exact" clock corrections (one epoch out of two) are included
in the combination and RMS computation (no "interpolation" values).
3. Starting with the GPS week 750 a new clock combination scheme was put in
place. Now the clock solution alignments to the GPS time use only non-SA
broadcast clock corrections (currently PRN 12, 15, 20) and the centre clock
weights are determined from the fit RMS of this alignment. In this
way the quality of the clock alignments (to the GPS time) is not affected
by SA and more realistic and objective weights are determined and used in
the clock combination, provided the non-SA satellites are representative of
each centre clock solution quality.
4. Starting with the GPS week 756, the IGS erp file is submitted in the new
IGS standard erp format (see IGS Mail #662). Since then, all ACs have been
submitting their erp files in the new format.
5. Starting with the GPS week 757, pole rates (for centres submitting these
rates) are used in the orbit combination. Sub-centimetre differences are
seen between using and not using the pole rates in the IGS combined orbits.
Overall, only slight differences are seen between the two methods.
Pole rates and LOD (LODR) have been used in the long arc evaluation for a
few weeks now (as soon as a centre submitted these values in their erp file).
In most cases, smaller RMS (up to a few cm) are obtained when LOD (LODR)
are taken into consideration.
6. PRN12 on day 209 (Jul 28) was set unhealthy starting at 23:25
(ref. NANU 193-94209) until day 211 (Jul 30) at 01:55 (ref. NANU 195-94211).
Also, PRN21 on day 207 (Jul 26) was set unhealthy starting at 20:34 until
day 208 (Jul 27) at 05:58 (ref. NANU 192-94208).
7. PRN12 on day 4 (Jul 28) was excluded from the clock weights determination
since the broadcast clock corrections did not reflect what was observed by
the Analysis Centres.
8. PRN28 (along with PRN 12,15 and 20) was included in the clock weights
determination for the whole week since its Selective Availability (SA) was
turned off.
9. Starting with the GPS week 759, a new clock strategy was implemented when
centre specific clock shifts, with respect to broadcast clock corrections,
were noticed. These shifts are due to resets at the clock reference station
which is used as a time reference, rather than bad clock solutions. A new
clock offset and drift are estimated when a centre shows such behavior.
Note that only the first clock offset and drift are output to the summary
file. However, the clock RMS includes all RMS from all offsets.
In summary, the following clock shifts/resets were noticed and
accounted for:

10.Some clock solutions were excluded from combination due to large clock
shifts or outliers that were biasing the combined clock solution but were
kept for RMS computation. The following table lists the exclusions:

11.Some orbit solutions were excluded from combination because they were
biasing the weighted average (as indicated by long arc RMS). They were still
used for statistics computation. The following table lists the exclusion:

Moreover, NGS solution for PRN21 was excluded from the long arc evaluation
on day 3 due to unrealistic RMS caused by this solution.
12.Centre specific UT1-UTC values for ESA, NGS and SIO were not used in the
long arc evaluation. Smaller RMS were obtained when UT1-UTC values from
Bulletin A were used.
