REMARKS concerning transition from ITRF92 to ITRF93:
Starting with day 001 of 1995 we implemented the ITRF93 coordinates and the
ITRF93 velocity field for the routine global analysis. We fix (more correctly:
heavily constrain) the same 13 sites as in 1994.
We recomputed our erp series using the new ITRF93 coordinates and velocities
for all days from day 200/1993 to day 365/1994. We saw the following
differences between the two erp series (ITRF93 and ITRF92) when looking at
this time interval of 1.5 years:
Differences "ITRF93(CODE) - ITRF92(CODE)"
x-pole y-pole
Epoch Offset [mas] Drift [mas/yr] Offset [mas] Drift [mas/yr]
1993.0 0.09 +- 0.06 -0.35 +- 0.05 -0.88 +- 0.08 -0.42 +- 0.06
1994.0 -.10 +- 0.04 -1.11 +- 0.06
1995.0 -.45 +- 0.05 -1.67 +- 0.07
This means that the change in the velocity model resulted in a change
in the drift rate in x and y pole of -0.35 resp. -0.42 mas/yr.
A comparison between the actual C04 pole series corrected by the offset and
drift values given in Table II-3 of the IERS 1993 Annual Report on page
II-19 and our series based on ITRF93 coordinates and velocities shows a
good consistency:
Differences between ITRF93(CODE) and C04
x-pole y-pole
Epoch Offset [mas] Drift [mas/yr] Offset [mas] Drift [mas/yr]
1993.0 -0.06 +- 0.06 0.03 +- 0.04 0.21 +- 0.07 -0.40 +- 0.05
There is no discontinuity between the ITRF92 and the ITRF93 erp series
at the end of the year, if the corrections given in Table II-3 of the IERS
1993 Annual Report and those of the corresponding Table in the IERS 1992
Annual Report are taken into account for the erp values of 1995 resp. 1994.
Starting with day 001/1995 the new ITRF93 coordinates (and velocities) should
be used to be consistent with the reference frame of the orbits.
