Dear colleagues,
so far, the QZSS orbit and clock products of the analysis centers of the IGS Multi-GNSS Pilot Project (MGPP) are based on the ionosphere-free linear combination of the L1C/A and L2C signals. The L1C and L5 signals also transmitted by QZSS are currently not considered.
The launch of the next QZSS satellite is scheduled for February 1, 2025. Like all future QZSS satellites, QZS-6 will not transmit any signals on L2. Furthermore, the L1C/B signal will be transmitted instead of L1C/A. Therefore, the MGPP analysis centers decided to switch to L1C and L5 for their product generation in order to be able to cover QZS-6 as well as future QZSS satellites. This switch will be done together with the transition to the IGb20 reference frame, i.e, starting with the products of GPS week 2352 (2 February 2025). Phase center offsets and phase patterns for L5 as provided by Cabinet Office, Government of Japan (https://qzss.go.jp/en/technical/qzssinfo/index.html) are already included in the IGS antenna model igs20.atx.
Please note that an IGS BDS-3/QZSS satellite antenna calibration campaign is currently under way to generate an antenna model consistent with the IGS20/IGb20 reference frame for these two systems. As a consequence of that campaign, the signal selection of the BeiDou-3 MGPP orbit and clock products will be changed to B1C/B2a in the near future. The date for that switch is not yet defined but is intended to be identical with the transition to the new antenna model for BeiDou-3 and QZSS.
Best regards,
Peter Steigenberger, on behalf of the Multi-GNSS Pilot Project
