Dear IGS Community Member,

For your information, please see the following information about the upcoming UN GGIM Global Geodesy Forum, titled “The Power of Where: the Value of Geodesy to Society."

> Dear colleagues of the global UN-GGIM community,
>
> On behalf of the UN-GGIM Subcommittee on Geodesy, we would like to announce this important Global Geodesy Forum which will, appropriately, be convened virtually on Earth Day, 22 April 2021.
> More information, including a detailed Concept Note and connection details, will be provided in the coming week. In the meantime, PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!
>
> Titled “The Power of Where: The Value of Geodesy to Society”, and with an amazing panel of global ambassadors and experts, the Global Geodesy Forum will highlight the important role geodesy has in providing safer and more resilient communities, in particular, to measure the cause and effect of sea level rise, storm surges and tsunami. The Forum will describe the economic benefits enabled by an accurate and reliable Global Geodetic Reference Frame (GGRF), and the role geodesy plays in assisting developing countries with efficient and effective land management. In addition to demonstrating the benefits geodesy provides to our world, the Forum will also shine a light on some of the risks associated with the GGRF, including the degradation of geodetic infrastructure and a lack of access to accurate coordinate reference frames and precise positioning in developing countries. We hope this will generate further support for the work of the Subcommittee on Geodesy and the forthcoming establishment of the UN Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence in Bonn, Germany.
>
> The Forum will be open to all participants, so please feel free to circulate to your wider networks and international community.
