Dear colleagues,
Thursday 28 August the receiver at KOSG will be replaced:
Old receiver: AOA SNR-12 ACT 229 3.3.32.4 (since
2000-11-27T15:16Z)
New receiver: LEICA GRX1200GGPRO 356091 6.00/3.14
An updated log file will be submitted after the change.
With the new receiver we will also start submitting hourly data for
KOSG.
The last years the future of KOSG, one of the earliest permanent GPS
stations
serving the IGS (since 1991), has been uncertain following the
abandonment
and demolition of the Kootwijk Observatory for Satellite Geodesy. After
the
abandonment of the observatory we have been able, with some difficulty,
to continue
the GPS observations at KOSG in an unofficial capacity. It is therefore
with
great pleasure that we can now announce that we have permission by the
new owners
and local municipality to continue with permanent GPS observations at
the site of
the former observatory. KOSG will therefore continue to serve the IGS
community
in future.
In the new setup KOSG will have no direct connection to the power grid.
The
receiver and antenna will be powered using solar panels, hence the new
and more
power efficient receiver. Data will be transmitted using mobile Internet
(currently GPRS, but we are ready for UMTS).
The most significant change for KOSG will be that in the next months we
will also
replace the existing AOAD/M_B DUTD antenna (in operation since 1991) for
a more
power efficient, Glonass, Galileo and L5 ready, model. Currently we are
in the
process of selecting a new antenna. The new (and old) antenna will be
calibrated
absolutely. The antenna change will be announced later.
The new and old receiver have been operating in parallel (using a
splitter) since
31 July, 2008. Data from both receivers is available from
http://gnss1.lr.tudelft.nl/dpga
Regards,
Hans van der Marel
