Dear colleagues,
During the Ionosphere Splinter Meeting of the recent IGS WS 2024, a decision was made to launch a new study group within the IGS Ionosphere Committee, focusing on the development of new methodology for combining IGS ionospheric products. As the chair of this newly established study group, I am pleased to invite you to participate in this this important initiative. Over the past two years, we have made significant progress in combing IGS Global Ionospheric Maps (GIMs) using ground GNSS and near-real-time DOIRS observation data. To further enhance and validate this effort, we are inviting active participation from interested members of the IGS community.
The objectives of this new Study Group are:
1. developing robust methodology for IGS ionospheric products combination using ground and spaceborne observation techniques, such as GNSS and DORIS observation data.
2. improving the reliability and accuracy of the IGS provided real-time, rapid, and final Global Ionospheric Maps (GIMs) through the integration of multi-source data.
3. Promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing within the IGS community and with practitioners in the field of ionospheric mapping and modeling.
We welcome individuals with expertise in ionospheric modeling, ground and space geodetic observation data processing, as well as those experienced in ionospheric product validation and combination techniques, to join us this collaboration effort. If you are interested in contributing, please submit your expression of interest, including a brief description of your relevant experience and areas of expertise, by emailing Ningbo WANG (wangningbo at aoe.ac.cn) before October 20.
We look forward to your participation and contributions, as we work together to improve the quality, reliability, and usability of the IGS ionospheric products for the entire IGS community.
Look forward to your participation and contribution.
With Best regards,
Ningbo and Adam
