[IGSMAIL-7271] Research Position on GNSS solar radiation pressure and attitude modelling - DEADLINE EXTENSION [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Melachroinos Stavros

Tue Mar 15 15:43:34 PDT 2016
Dear colleagues,
The deadline for this position has been extended till April 11th 12:00pm AEST.
We are looking to hire a POD scientist to work on the precise orbit determination and in particular the solar radiation pressure and attitude modelling of the BeiDou constellation.
Who may apply: All qualified Australian and international candidates. CRC for Spatial Information will sponsor a working VISA for this position.
The position offers competitive salary ($80K to $115K per annum depending on experience) and benefits together with relocation expenses.
About the Position
This position is a project based 26-month appointment with the Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information (CRCSI) and will be hosted by Geoscience Australia (GA), Canberra.
The research project will address solar radiation pressure (SRP) and attitude regime modelling of the BeiDou (BDS) satellite constellations with the goal of producing BDS products that support users across Australia to determine their positions anytime, anywhere and with the highest precision and integrity possible. The research will contribute to Australia's National Positioning Infrastructure (NPI).
Australia greatly benefits from the current BDS geographical configurations. The capacity of a future analysis centre software (ACS) platform to utilise the BDS system as part of its routine processing constitutes an important requirement for the successful implementation of the NPI.
The successful candidate will work within GA's GNSS Positioning and Algorithms Development Team. The role will give the opportunity to work collaboratively within GA and its partner organisation including: Wuhan University, NASA, CRCSI, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Otago University (NZ) and Curtin University Western Australia.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
1. Evaluate existing conservative force modelling approaches and how these might be applied and tuned to the BDS constellations. In particular, emphasis will be given to analytical solar radiation pressure (SRP) models.
2. Investigate the current attitude regime that governs BDS satellite dynamics.
3. Evaluate the performance of GNSS networks tracking the BDS satellites and their ability to determine a series of parameters that will improve the precise orbit determination by reconstructing the accelerations due to SRP.
4. Implement and verify the BDS Interface Control Document standards
5. Demonstrate teamwork, coordination and technology transfer by providing technical expertise and advice within the project.
6. Perform research and publish in international peer-reviewed journals
7. Undertake international travel as required
Minimum requirements
1. A PhD degree or equivalent in geospatial/space-geodesy/physics/astronomy with some research experience in space geodesy.
2. A sound knowledge of least squares adjustment and Kalman filter methods
3. A sound knowledge of orbital mechanics , satellite dynamics and multi-GNSS environments
4. Proven experience in a research team and geodetic projects. At least 2 references and a publications list is required.
5. Good knowledge of scientific computing and an ability to program in at least one of FORTRAN, C, C++, MATLAB, KSH, PERL and/or CSH
How to apply : please send a CV + cover letter and publications list directly to stavros.melachroinos at ga.gov.au<mailto:stavros.melachroinos at ga.gov.au> or wjackson at crcsi.com.au<mailto:wjackson at crcsi.com.au>. Applications close April 11th 12:00pm AEST.
