Dear Colleagues,

Twenty years ago, on January 1, 1994, the IGS was
officially established as a Service of the International Association of
Geodesy (IAG), after providing global GPS data and products already
since June 1992 as the IGS Test Campaign. The IGS started its life under
the umbrella of the IAG as the "International GPS Service for
Geodynamics", a name which was changed to the "International GPS
Service" in 1999 to acknowledge the wide area of applications of the
high quality IGS data and products that ranges well beyond geodynamics.
In 2005 the Service was renamed to the "International GNSS Service" to
highlight the generation of official IGS GLONASS products.

 Since its
beginning the IGS grew to a voluntary federation of some 250
contributing organizations and institutions from about 90 countries
worldwide. The IGS concept, demonstrated twenty years ago, proved to be
successful beyond expectation. The IGS continues to operate the world
largest global GNSS tracking network, makes highest quality data and
products freely available to our users, and provides essential input for
the realization of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF).
The Multi GNSS Experiment (MGEX) is preparing the IGS for the new era
with more than 100 navigation satellites in the sky. The IGS launched
its Real-time Service which is approaching Full Operational Capability.
A new logo as well as the upcoming launch of a new web site complement
the appearance of the IGS. The IGS will prosper further in the next
decade of its existence.

The 20 years of service will be celebrated at
our upcoming IGS Workshop in Pasadena on June 23-27. Save the date!
