Dear Colleagues:
Please consider submitting an abstract to our Special Session "Space Weather Events and Assimilative Models" of the upcoming URSI National Radio Science Meeting at the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, January 8-11, 2014.
Space Weather Events and Assimilative Models Special Session
Convenors: Attila Komjathy <Attila.Komjathy at jpl.nasa.gov> and Anthea Coster <ajc at haystack.mit.edu>.
The deadline for abstract submission is Monday, Sept 23, 2013.
SESSION ABSTRACT
Accurate forecasts of ionospheric conditions can be used to mitigate or avoid the adverse effects of ionospheric disturbances on communication and navigation systems during space weather events. Despite improvements in modeling and increased quality and amounts of data, nowcasting and forecasting remain difficult. This session intends to combine reviews of current space weather events and their implications with the latest developments in ionospheric specification and forecasting. Papers are solicited on recent experimental observations, theoretical results of modeling, and the combination of data and models into assimilative systems. Contributions on analysis of filtering methods, data processing techniques for new applications and observing systems are encouraged. Furthermore, we solicit contributions from emerging research topics including detection of ionospheric perturbations generated by natural hazards such as tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and corresponding modeling aspects for discrimination between natural hazards and space weather impacts.
The web page http://www.nrsmboulder.org/ contains the general conference information, including abstract submission instructions and guidelines.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Anthea Coster and Attila Komjathy
