Dear Colleagues,
In response to the M9.0 earthquake in Japan on March 11, 2011, the ARIA team at JPL and Caltech have produced a “version 0.1” set of horizontal coseismic displacements based on our solutions from GEONET GPS sites. We are posting coseismic vectors as well as a table with offset values on the following anonymous ftp site:
ftp://sideshow.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/usrs/ARIA
All original GEONET RINEX data provided to Caltech by the Geospatial Information Authority (GSI) of Japan. These offsets are the difference between two bias-fixed 5 minute position estimates (00:00 UTC and 06:00 UTC), calculated using GIPSY-OASIS in kinematic positioning mode. As a result, they are not relative to any site within the network. The solutions were estimated using JPL’s Rapid orbit and clock product. While these solutions are likely to have errors on the order of several cm in the offset position, as the signal from this earthquake is very large we are posting these results for response use by the community.
In your use of these vectors, please use the following accreditation:
"Preliminary GPS displacement data (version 0.1) provided by the ARIA team at JPL and Caltech. All Original GEONET RINEX data provided to Caltech by the Geospatial Information Authority (GSI) of Japan."
We are in the process of refining our solutions and jump estimation strategy and will post our (version 0.2) results when completed and reviewed.
Sincerely,
Susan Owen
ARIA-Earthquake Principal Investigator
