Dear Colleagues:

Please consider submitting an abstract to our "Ionospheric Data
Assimilation and Modeling Special Session" of the upcoming
USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting at the University of Colorado,
Boulder, CO, January 5-8, 2011.
The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, Sept 24, 2010.

Ionospheric Data Assimilation and Modeling Special Session
Convenors: Attila Komjathy <Attila.Komjathy at jpl.nasa.gov> and Gary Bust <gbust at astraspace.net>.

ABSTRACT
Communication and navigation system operators could benefit from accurate
forecasts of ionospheric conditions since ionospheric disturbances can
adversely affect radio wave propagation. Despite improvements in modeling
and increased quality and amounts of data, nowcasting and forecasting remain
difficult. This session intends to provide a review of the latest
developments in ionospheric specification and forecasting. We intend to
cover all aspects of ionospheric modeling and data assimilation. Papers are
solicited on recent experimental and theoretical results of modeling and
observing techniques combined with data assimilative systems. Contributions
on analysis of filtering methods, new applications and observing systems,
including modeling for the ionosphere and related atmospheric regions are
desired.

Please note that there is a related session “Global Navigation Satellite Systems
and Radio Beacon Remote Sensing” organized by Sigrid Close <sigridc at stanford.edu> and
Carl L. Siefring <carl.siefring at nrl.navy.mil>. Should you feel your presentation would be a better fit in
that session please contact Sigrid or Carl and let them know you are submitting
to their session.

The web page http://www.nrsmboulder.org/ contains the general conference
information, including abstract submission instructions and guidelines.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Attila Komjathy and Gary Bust
