Modelers from a variety of fields will be impacted by the impending loss
of the GRACE mission, and they will need to employ alternative missions
and data sets to bridge any gap until the GRACE Follow-On mission. To
discuss this in a common venue, a session has been submitted for the
December (Fall) 2010 AGU meeting in San Francisco on December 13-17.
G22: Bridging the Gap Between GRACE and a Follow-on Mission
Description:
GRACE has provided researchers a time-varying gravimetric field at
basin-wide and larger scales for nearly a decade. With the eventual
failure of GRACE and the likely gap in time before its follow-on
mission, a program needs to be implemented soon to provide continuity
for modeling over this gap and ensure a proper tie between GRACE and
GRACE Follow-On. Presentations will be accepted from a variety of
disciplines, including geodesy, hydrology, cryosphere studies, and
oceanographic studies, covering possible data collection and modeling
schemes that will allow the gap to be bridged. We look to refine models
that allow for intra- and inter-seasonal variability to be predicted
while GRACE data are still available for validation.
