FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
Regional Workshop on GNSS -  Asia Oceania is the bShowcase of New GNSS Erab
25-26 January 2010, Sofitel Centara Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand

The first Asia Oceania Regional Workshop on GNSS (the bGNSS Workshopb) will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 25 to 26 January 2010, just prior to the 16th Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF). The GNSS workshop will be jointly organised and co-sponsored by the Satellite Positioning Research and Application Center (SPAC) of Japan, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA).

There will be a significant improvement in Position, Navigation and Timing capability as the next generation GNSS are deployed in the coming decade, including the U.S.bs modernized GPS-IIF and planned GPS-III, the revitalised (and subsequently modernized) GLONASS from Russia, Europebs GALILEO system, and Chinabs COMPASS system, as well as a number of Space Based Augmentation Systems (such as Japanbs Quasi-Zenith Satellite System) and Regional Navigation Satellite Systems (such as Indiabs IRNSS) will add extra satellites and extra signals to the multi-constellation GNSS bmixb. The Asia and Oceania region is unique in the sense that it is the part of the world where the number of usable navigation satellites will increase much faster than elsewhere. We therefore believe it is opportune that we plan for next generation GNSS through region-wide demonstration projects.

The GNSS Workshop will launch an initiative by JAXA to establish a framework for a joint demonstration campaign known as the bAsia-Oceania Multi-GNSS Demonstration Campaignb. The GNSS Workshop also will solicit proposals for joint development of multi-GNSS technologies and applications, as well as experiments in the region. We do hope that you and your colleagues will join us at the GNSS Workshop and contribute to discussions. Furthermore, any contribution to the GNSS Workshop, such as advising us of future GNSS requirements, proposing an Asia-Oceania regional project, providing equipment for experimental use, and so on, is welcomed. Just provide us with details at the time of your registration and we will try to accommodate your contribution within the workshop program. There is no registration fee for the GNSS Workshop, however seating is limited to 80 participants and registrations will be handled on a bfirst-in-first-acceptedb basis.
