TWO RESEARCH POSTS IN GEODESY OR A RELATED GEOPHYSICAL DISCIPLINE

NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY, UK, SCHOOL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND GEOSCIENCES
____________________________
RESEARCH POST IN GPS GEODESY

Applications are invited from candidates holding a PhD (or expecting the imminent award of one) in GPS geodesy to work as a central part of a newly funded UK Natural
Environmental Research Council (NERC) project. You will join the Newcastle Geodesy team and carry out research into the analysis and utilisation of GPS observations related to
obtaining improved vertical and horizontal site velocities through a global GPS reprocessing project. The aim of the project is to place better constraints on the vertical motion
of the global tide gauge network and three-dimensional motions due to glacial isostatic adjustment in Antarctica. Applications from individuals who already have experience in
global GPS (re-)processing activities are particularly welcome.

This new position is available from 1 July 2007, for three years in the first instance but with the expectation of continuation depending on funding and performance. Appointments
will be on Scale F (#22,332-#31,840 per annum), although appointment at the Senior Research Associate level (Scale G; #32,795-#39,160) may be considered for a candidate of
exceptional quality and experience.

Applications for the initial shortlist should be received by Thursday 5 April 2007 and interviews are likely to be during the week commencing 30 April. The post will remain open
until filled.

RESEARCH POST IN SPACE GEODESY OR A RELATED GEOPHYSICAL DISCIPLINE

Applications are invited from candidates holding a PhD (or expecting the imminent award of one) in space geodesy or a related geophysical discipline to work as a central part of
an expanding geodetic group at Newcastle University. You will join the Newcastle Geodesy team and carry out research relating to important current scientific questions. We are
particularly seeking to diversify our current skill base by adding someone with expertise in any of: PSInSAR, water vapour measurement from satellite sensors, satellite
altimetry, satellite gravimetry or geophysical modelling, especially with application to polar sciences. Applicants with obvious synergies with current Newcastle research
programmes are particularly welcome. The appointee will be required to undertake field work in Antarctica for up to approximately 2 months and hence should be willing and
physically able to undertake this task.

This new position is available from 14 May 2007, for three years in the first instance but with the expectation of continuation depending on funding and performance. Appointments
will be on Scale F (#22,332-#31,840 per annum).

Applications for the initial shortlist should be received by Thursday 5 April 2007 and interviews are likely to be during the week commencing 30 April. The post will remain open
until filled.
