NGS is in the process of installing a new GPS station (BRFT) at Fortaleza
to replace the old station (FORT). Data will be reported back in hourly
files as well as daily 24-hr files. (We hope to implement real-time data
transfer too.) For the hourly files, Miranda Chin has tested hourly
transfers with 1-s sampling, which seems to work fine so far. But we
are not sure that the Internet connection can sustain such a load
continuously.

Can anybody provide a strong rationale to prefer either 1-s or 5-s
sampling for the near-real-time hourly files? For instance, would
ionospheric science or scintillation studies be enhanced using 1-s
samples from this equatorial site?

Any advice you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks,
--Jim
