Colleagues,
As a follow-up on Stefan's exciting findings, I would like contribute
with other interesting plots showing Jason-1 vertical TEC
measurements at the 250 (!) TECU level in the Southern Pacific region
on October 30. Also shown is our various GIM TEC estimates largely
underestimating the high TEC values due to lack of GPS coverage in
that part of the world.
One specific example I would like to point out:

Furthermore:
Complete movies of the October 29-30 events, using Jason-1 tracks,
indicate large anomalies in the Pacific region:
ftp://sideshow.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/axk/jason/20031029_anim.mpeg
and
ftp://sideshow.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/axk/jason/20031030_anim.mpeg
GIM and point plots in mpeg movie format also show interesting features:

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best wishes,
Attila Komjathy
