GPS Community,

It has just recently come to our attention, through weeks of intermittent
system outages and assorted network problems, that our central ftp server
(ftp://garner.ucsd.edu) suffers from a very bad nfs-related kernel memory
leak. This leak has required that we reboot the server every couple of
days....for the past 3-4 weeks. We have tried several countermeasures,
kernel upgrades, etc, but to no avail. We are thus forced to reinstall a
new operating system and reconfigure our ftp services. This is commencing
immediately, and will result in several hours of downtime (no ftp or http
access to SOPAC), beginning ASAP.

We apologize for this inconvenience, and for the extremely short notice
(or lack thereof). Hopefully it will result in a much more stable SOPAC
archive in the months ahead.

Thanks very much for your patience and understanding.

Best Regards,

Michael Scharber

SOPAC Archive Team

ps. We will send notification when ftp services are reinstated.
