likely have significant effects on the future aspects of space geodesy

			     IERS WORKSHOP
                                 on the
                 IMPLEMENTATION of the NEW IAU RESOLUTIONS


The International Earth Rotation Service (IERS) will organize a workshop
devoted to the implementation of the IAU XXIV General Assembly
recommendations on reference systems. This IERS Workshop on the 
Implementation of the new IAU Resolutions will be held at the 
Paris Observatory, April 18 - 19, 2002.

The IAU 2000 Resolutions are available on the website of IAU Div I at:
http://danof.obspm.fr/IAU_resolutions/Resol-UAI.htm

All researchers and specialists working in field of interest are kindly
invited to contribute to the discussion which will be held during the
Workshop, even if they do not attend the workshop.
You will improve the efficiency of the workshop by fill in the 
attached a questionnaire submitted by the SOC of the Workshop. 
Your input will be discussed during the workshop.

For each session draft position papers have been provided by the 
invited presenters or convenors for distribution in advance
of the workshop. They are available as pdf-files within the 
workshop program on the IERS WEB page:

As a source of complementary information the IERS Conventions 2000 
bring significant information for the implementation of the 
IAU Resolutions 2000. Information can be found at:

1. After looking at the IAU Resolutions B1.1 to B1.9, do you understand
    - the reasons for them ?
    - their theoretical basis ?
    - their meaning  ?

   - If  not, please identify  the Resolution, the problem, and, if 
     possible, provide a suggested additional explanation for 
     the Resolution.

2. Which of the IAU resolutions you think have direct impact and require an
   immediate action by the IERS ?

3. After looking at the draft reports of the presenters in Session 2-8, 
   do you understand
    - the consequences of the Resolutions ?
    - how to implement the Resolutions in practice ?

   - If not, for which Reports do you have a problem and why 
     (theoretical problem, practical one, lack of explanations) ?
   
   - Do the draft reports cover all the necessary issues ?


4. Do you identify specific difficulties in implementing these Resolutions?
    - in theoretical works ?
    - in reductions of observations ?
    - in analyses of data ?
    - in softwares ?
    - in terminology ?
    - in education of IAU and IERS user communities ?
    - in maintenance backward compatibility with data and software ?
    - outside the IERS community ?

   - If yes, which difficulty do you foresee ?
   - For which use ?

5. Are you ready to implement the Resolution(s) for which you are 
   concerned on the 1st January 2003 ?
