VISITING PROFESSOR POSITIONS IN EARTHQUAKE RESEARCH INSTITUTE, UNIVERSITY OF
TOKYO

The Earthquake Research Institute at the University of Tokyo invites
applications for a few visiting professor positions. The duration of the
appointment will be from 3 to 12 months. Successful applicants should arrive
in Tokyo between April 2002 and March 2003.

Candidates in any area of geophysics (including, but not limited to, all
areas of seismology, geodesy, geodynamics, mineral and rock physics, physics
of earthquakes, tectonics, and volcanology, geochemistry and experimental
petrology) are encouraged to apply.

The monthly stipend will be 450,000 yen or higher depending on
qualifications. Round trip travel costs will be covered. We select the
nominees to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and
Technology in November 2001, and the final decision is made by the ministry
no later than March 2002.

Any applicant is strongly recommended to have prior contact to scientists of

Application letter should include:

1) curriculum vitae including a list of publications
2) one-page statement of proposed research activities
3) planing date of arrival in Japan and duration of stay
4) second preference of the above date and duration
5) date and place of birth, sex, and nationality/citizenship
6) current appointment and/or status
7) mailing address / telephone / fax / e-mail (office and home),
