Subject: New Daily Status Files on CDDIS

The CDDIS staff has recently developed software to create and maintain
daily status files of GPS data holdings. The automated archiving procedures
currently executed at CDDIS have been modified to execute the quality checking
(QC) program developed by UNAVCO that analyzes the daily observation files and
generates summary files containing various statistics on these data. Routines
then browse these summary files and update the daily status file with
statistics on number of data points, cycle slips, and multipath. Furthermore,
information from the RINEX header, such as receiver and antenna type, antenna
height, marker name and number, are included to provide checks against the
system configuration information available through the IGS Central Bureau
Information System (CBIS). Data latency (in hours) is also computed and
provided for each station. Replacement data will be processed and reflected in
this file by way of a version column. The daily status files will be loaded
into the CDDIS data base for reporting purposes. The staff can then easily
generate reports on the timeliness of data deliveries and data quality of the
IGS stations. The user community can receive a quick look at a day's data
availability and quality by downloading a single status file.

The filename of this daily status file is of the form yyddd.STATUS, where
yy is the two-digit year and ddd is the day of year. These files are stored on
CDDIS in the daily subdirectories (i.e., GPS1:[GPSDATA.yyddd]). Status files
created after day 96113 can be considered "operational"; early files were
generated during software tests and may not be complete or correct. An excerpt
from the status file for day 96113 is included below. The file is currently
132 characters in width.

The summary files created by the QC program are also stored on the CDDIS,
and will soon replace the CDDIS-generated summary file. These summary files
are of the form ssssddd#.yyS_Z, where ssss is the four-character monument name
and # is the file sequence number for the site for that day (typically 0).
The summary files are stored in daily subdirectories, GPS1:[GPSDATA.yyddd.yyS].

Many thanks to Gerry Mader (NOAA/GRDL) and Werner Gurtner (AIUB) for their
original proposals for this activity and review of the status charts during the
creation process. The CDDIS staff hopes the user community will find this new
reporting method useful and encourages suggestions and comments that could
possibly be incorporated in future versions.
