Subject: New IGS site in Greenland (KELY)

A TurboRogue receiver was installed near the Sondrestrom
fjord in Greenland on July 23, 1995. It is located at the
the Sondrestrom Incoherent Scatter Radar facility,
(operated by SRI) which graciously allowed us to install
the GPS receiver at their site. This radar facility is
known as Kellyville. A 3 megawatt radar operates approximately
10% of the month. This radar operates at 1290 MHz. Because
of concerns about the antenna, we are not currently collecting
data through the radar runs. At the present time, Kellyville has
the only civilian internet access in Greenland.

The data are currently being picked up by NOAA (CIGNET) and
will be available via the IGS data centers. Three reference marks
were installed, and surveys will be deposited to the IGS Central
Bureau in the near future.

This site was installed with the cooperation of a large number of
people and institutions, including:

John Wahr, Kristine Larson, Koni Steffen (University of Colorado)
Tonie van Dam, Doug Robertson, Dave Crump, Miranda Chin (NOAA)
Mary McCready (SRI)
Rene Forsberg and Bo Madsen (KMS)

Funding and a GPS receiver was provided by NASA.

The site log, which has been submitted to the IGS Central Bureau
is included below. If you have additional questions about the
site, you can contact me directly.

Additional information : The GPS site is located on the Sondrestrom
fjord, at the Sondrestrom Incoherent Scatter
Radar facility. This facility is known as
Kellyville. A 3 megawatt radar operates

concerns, we are not currently collecting
data through the radar runs. The nearest town
is Kangerlussuaq. We have named this site
KELY so as to not confuse this site with a
                                 temporary GPS marker named KANG.
