Dear Colleagues,

Please find hereafter a preliminary analysis of IGS GPS station coordinates
solutions available to us up today. Your comments, opinion and suggestions
will be appreciated.

The solutions concerned are :

PJ    SSC(JPL) 92 P 02  based on a 3 month period from 01-jun-01-sep-1992
PR    SSC(SIO) 92 P 03  based on the first 51 days of the IGS campaign
                        (see IGSmail # 101)
PC    SSC(CSR) 92 P 03  fiducial free based on about 50 days centred on
                        1992.6
PB    SSC(CODE)92 p 01  only European stations based on 115 3-Day solutions
                        the provided coordinates refer to SLR/VLBI markers.
PE    SSC(EMR) 92 P 01  based on the period 04-aug-17-oct-1992.


A global combination was performed incorporating the 5 above solutions
with the following assumptions:

- the original formal errors of the individual sets were modified in order
  to obtain statistically realistic combined solution. This was done using
  the formula : Sig = SQRT (A**2 + B**2.Sigf**2) where Sig is the input
  error and Sigf the original formal error. A and B are determined by an
  empirical estimation. The adopted values of A and B are:

          N       : number of points common to other solutions
          SP      : unweighted 2-D horizontal RMS
          SU      : unweighted vertical RMS
          WSX     : weighted 3-D (X, Y, Z) RMS
          NSX     : 3-D normalized RMS
          A and B : as defined above

Table 3 : Residuals per site giving for each site:
          - DOMES Number, CDP number or the 4-char IGS abbreviation
          - and per solution, the following numbers:
            RX, RY, RZ : residuals in the geocentric frame
            NX, NY, NZ : normalized residuals
            RE, RN, RU : residuals in the local frame
            and the mean of these 3 type of residuals


A comparison between this GPS combined solution and the ITRF91 was then
performed. The corresponding results are given in Tables 4, 5 and 6.
