-----------------
IGS Status Report, July 24, 1992
________________________________
General Remarks :
- The IGS campaign 1992 started five weeks ago.
- The data flow is well established now. It is problematic
that that the file-name conventions and the station name conventions
are not always observed.
- Regular analyses are produced by (a) CSR, Austin, (b) JPL, Pasadena,
(c) SIO , San Diego, (d) CODE, Berne. First results came in
from GFZ, Potsdam and from ESOC, Darmstadt.
- Two earth rotation bulletins were issued so far, Dennis McCarthy is
comparing the earth rotation parameters regularly with the IERS
evaluations. The results are encouraging, reports are given at
weekly intervals in the IGS mailbox.
- In summary: The experiment is running surprisingly well, Epoch'92
campaign (25 July 0:00 UT - 8 August 23:59:59 UT) will not suffer
from a lack of high quality orbits.
(1) IAG-Symposium 112 in Potsdam , 5 - 10 October 1992
___________________________________________________
- There will be a session on IGS at the Potsdam Symposium on "Geodesy
and Physics of the Earth".
(2) Campaign Oversight Committee Meeting, 15/16 October 1992
________________________________________________________
- As announced earlier the next IGS campaign oversight committee
meeting will take place at the Goddard space flight center (after
the DOSE Working Group Meeting).
- The meeting will have the form of a workshop. We hope to see the
members of the oversight committee and many participants of the 1992
IGS experiments at the workshop. We will start on Thursday, 15 October
(probably mid-afternoon), and continue on Friday for the entire day.
The agenda will follow.
- Those of you having received the first announcement of the DOSE
meeting have seen that IGS is scheduled as one of the topics of the
DOSE meeting. Greenbelt seems to be worth a trip in October -- if
you are interested in IGS.
(3) Suggested Post Campaign Meeting in Spring 1992
______________________________________________
- There will be the need for a Post Campaign Workshop (covering the
1992 IGS campaign AND Epoch'92) in spring 1992. I suggest to
organize this workshop at the University of Berne (which would
allow us not to travel too far) in the week of 22 - 26 March, 1993.
- Since there will be a meeting on differential GPS in Amsterdam
during the next week, the suggested time frame would allow Non -
Europeans to optimize their trip to Europe.
- If the idea of a meeting in Berne seems acceptable, we should be
able to continue our planning by the end of August. Could I
therefore have your reactions until August 21 ?
Kind regards
Gerhard Beutler

INFORMATIONS TO PRODUCT GENERATION
The calculation of the 7-day ephemerides file is described below.
Day of GPS Week 650 [Day 0=Sunday; Day 6=Saturday]
Arc No. 0 1 2 3 4 5 6
0 XXXX----
1 XXXX----
2 XXXX----
3 XXXX----
4 XXXX----
5 XXXX----
6 XXXX----
XXXX : The first day of the 2-day arc is used for ephemeris
dissemination
---- : The second day is used for quality control by overlap
The pole coordinates are estimated for three epochs (beginning
of each day) with the 2-day arc's. Using the above described
method (one day overlaps) there are three solutions for each
pole parameter. The submitted ERP-results are the mean values
of these different solutions.
- GFZ06517.EPH (Seven 1-day segments)
In the table below the overlap rms differences [m] in radial,
cross- and along-track component are presented.

NOTES:
(a) Those sites without a DOMES point number are at unknown locations,
and those sites with a (?) in the Alternate descriptions possibly have
an incorrect DOMES number.
(b) The epoch refers to the epoch at which the site position applies
and not the mid-point of the data span. We have also added the
velocities adopted for these sites at the end of each line. For most sites
these are the NUVEL-1 velocities with the North American AM0-2 velocity
added. For PIN1 and DS10, Observed velocities (based on a combined VLBI/
GPS solution using ~10 years of data have been used).
(c) The PE notation in the site name (PINB, DS1B and JPLB) denotes
post-Landers earthquake position (applicable after 11:58 UTC June 28, 1992.
(d) These coordinates were estimated from the first 29 days of IGS data.
They have been rotated and translated into the ITRF 1990 frame by use
of the horizontal coordinates at YELL_GPS, PIN1_GPS, SIO1_GPS, FAIR_GPS,
USUD_GPS, DS10_GPS, DS60_GPS, YAR1_GPS, ONSA_GPS, WTZ1_GPS, TROM_GPS,
KOSG_GPS. The rms difference between the horizontal coordinates of
these sites and our previous realization (first IERS submission) was
15 mm).

NOTES: UT1 not estimated. Value given is apriori used in analysis. The rms is the square of chi**2
per degree of freedom in our solution. It nominally should be 1.0. st and sv are numbers of stations
and satellites in solution.
