                            IGS'92 CAMPAIGN

COMPLEMENT OF INFORMATION CONCERNING THE DATA FLOW
                            (Third message)

Following the distribution of our first and second messages, we receive comments
and questions. This message brings some amendements in the instructions already
disseminated, in order to better coordinate the data flow. Its contents has been
agreed upon by the IERS Central Bureau and the IERS Sub-bureau for Rapid
Service and Predictions.

1 - Amendment to the first message: we ask that the EOP results be sent not
specifically on Fridays, but more frequently. They should be sent IN PARALLEL:

     - to the IERS Central Bureau (Paris) and

     - to the IERS Sub-bureau for Rapid Service and Predictions (Washington),
which is prepared to include them in its processing.

The Sub-bureau is going to issue weekly EOP predictions, their deadline for
receiving data is Thursday, 13:00 UT. The E-mail of the IERS Sub-bureau is

                          DMC at maia.USNO.Navy.mil

2 - In the second message, we suggested that the EOP results transmitted be
computed for normalized dates (12:00 UT, 00:00 UT). THIS IS NOT MANDATORY, so
do what is most appropriate in your processing. However, we suggest that you
fill in a 15th field in the format given in our first message, to give the
time span covered by the observations used, in decimal hours. Please fill with
zeros the x,y related fields in the case when only UT1 is estimated, or the UT1
related fields when only x,y are estimated.

All other dispositions in our first two messages are confirmed.

END OF IERS/CB THIRD MESSAGE

Subject: Naming Conventions for IGS Product Files
         ----------------------------------------

Naming Conventions for IGS Product Files
----------------------------------------

Dear colleagues,

Gerhard Beutler asked me to create a naming convention for the product
files of IGS, i.e.

 - the precise ephemeris files
 - the earth rotation parameter files
 - the ionosphere model files
 - satellite clock files (if this information is distributed
in a separate file, proposed by B. Schutz)
 - summary files (proposed by B. Schutz)

The names should reflect
- the content (orbit, erp, ionosphere, ...)
- the origin (i.e. the processing center)
- the covered period

After having proposed a choice of two different conventions to
several people involved in product computing I will propose
the final filenaming convention as follows, according to a
slight majority favoring this proposal:

            cccwwwwd.ttt

with: ccc : Institution having created the file
e.g. SIO for Scripps Inst. of Oceanography
NGS for US National Geodetic Survey
                                JPL for Jet Propulsion Laboratory
COD for Center of Orbit Determination
                                        in Europe
                                UTX for University of Texas
                                ...

                   wwww : GPS week number
                           e.g. 0516

d : Day of the week
                           0=Sunday, 1=Monday, ... , 6=Saturday
                           7=File contains whole week (Sun-Sat)

                    ttt : File type
e.g. ERP : Earth Rotation Parameters
                                EPH : Precise Ephemerides
CLK : Satellite Clocks (for those
                                      who prepare a separate file)
                                ION : Ionosphere Models
                                SUM : Summary (text) File

This filenaming convention restricts the flexibility of course, as
there are only daily and weekly files possible. On the other hand
several institutions already now work with weekly files synchronized
with the GPS week and it got a slightly better acceptance in the poll.

For the data flow of the Earth Rotation Parameters towards the IERS
Bureau the naming convention is not important as IERS has asked for
E-Mail transmission (which does not need filenames).

Subject: Site information
         ----------------

Claude Boucher and me are in charge of IGS site information:
Coordinates, local ties... I am working on a detailed catalogue
which will contain the following information:

1) Site name and DOMES number,
2) A VLBI or SLR mark identified by CDP number,
3) The GPS marker,
4) The type of GPS receiver, the date of its settlement and its IGS
   code,
5) The X,Y,Z eccentricity from the VLBI or SLR mark to the GPS
   marker,
6) The antenna height from the GPS marker to the antenna reference
   point,
7) The ITRF91 coordinates for epoch 1992.5.

This catalogue will be available in the begining of the next
week and will be mailed to all participants.

I would like to ask all participants to check this catalogue,
to inspect it very carefully and to send me directly all comments,
corrections and new information in order to update it.

Regards.
