Introducing the IGS Electronic Mailbox
______________________________________

Purpose : The IGS electronic mailbox can be used by all members of the
IGS campaign oversight committee and the participants of the
1992 IGS campaign. In view of the fact that the 1992 IGS
campaign is starting in 31 days (!) it seemed absolutely
necessary to establish a quick and efficient communication
link between the participants of the 1992 events. It could
also be used to distribute e.g. short weekly reports by
          data or processing centers.

Place : The IGS mailbox is installed at the Astronomical Institute of
the University of Bern, Switzerland (AIUB). The Address of
          the IGS mailbox :

                 igsmail at aiub.unibe.ch

Principles of operation : Every message sent to the IGS mailbox is meant
to be mailed (after re-formating and numbering it) without
further editing to the IGS mail distribution list (present
list see below). Only signed messages will be distributed
          however.

We could not find a way to perform this re-distribution in a
fully automatic way. Tim Springer of AIUB will be the IGS
postmaster for 1992. He will check the mail box and
re-distribute the mail on a daily basis (except week-ends). If
you have suggestions, questions, etc concerning the IGS e-mail
service (e.g. new addresses to be added to the IGS
distribution list, removal of old adresses) please send them
by e-mail to the following address:

                 springer at aiub.unibe.ch

How to use the IGS mailbox : If you have a message, which you would like
to send to all addresses in the IGS distribution list, please
send it to the mail box:

                 igsmail at aiub.unibe.ch

It will then be numbered, a header will be added, then it will be mailed
to all members of the distribution list.

* Could we ask everybody receiving this message, but especially
* Ruth Neilan and Peter Morgan, to carefully check the initial
* distribution list, and to let us know any changes as soon as possible.

Kind regards

Gerhard Beutler
Tim Springer

PS: Those who received this message by fax could not be reached through
E-Mail. We ask them to send us their e-mail address to be included
    into the e-mail distribution list.
