Dear Colleagues-

Here is a brief update on the IGS Site Log XML effort, and a request for
your input. Several of us involved with this effort attended the IGS
Workshop earlier this month in Sydney. The background and plans for this
effort were described to the wider IGS community during the
Infrastructure plenary and Infrastructure, RINEX, and Data Center
splinter session. A recommendation from the splinter session related to
this effort was forwarded to the IGS Governing Board; the recommendation
encourages implementation of the IGS XML System, and, to support the
implementation, stakeholders are encouraged to submit use cases.

Going back to August of 2015, during the GGOS Metadata meeting that
several of us were able to attend in Boulder, a set of milestones and an
initial task list for this effort was developed. You can view these at
this link:

The team at Geoscience Australia is close to completing the first task,
related to milestone 1, to take the decision document as the basis to
define IGS Site Log XML Schema v1.0. While this task is being completed,
we would like to request that participants in this effort contribute to
our use case collection, item 4 on the milestones list. Use cases are a
way to define requirements for systems, so that necessary functionality
is described and documented. I would like to ask all to look at and
contribute to the Use Case Collection Google Doc here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SSIXe3R5-7FZ6MT0nodmTtywEc6q35A4XzXhLk63YNQ/edit

I hope that the instructions are adequate and that all feel comfortable
adding to the collection and commenting on use cases. I request that
everyone aim for completing at least an initial phase of contributing to
this document by the end of March. This is an important step as we hope
to move later this year to begin implementing software and servers.

If you have questions about this process please reply to this e-mail (or
add a question as a comment to the document). If necessary, we will hold
a teleconference to further discuss use cases. The need for a
teleconference will be determined based on response to this call.

As always, thanks for your continued interest and involvement with this
effort.

Best,
Fran
