Dear Colleagues,

We have been working with the IGS Infrastructure Committee on ways
to integrate GNSS data in RINEX V3 format into the operational archives
at the IGS global data centers. Since the start of the Multi-GNSS
Experiment (MGEX), multi-GNSS data in RINEX V3 format have been archived
at the data centers in separate, campaign directories. Thus far, RINEX
V3 data have been archived using the 8.3 filename structure; the new
longer file name convention is more descriptive of the contents of the
file and will avoid confusion with data archived in RINEX V2 format.

Some stations are now supplying V3 data using the RINEX V3 filenaming
specification; these files are also available in the campaign directory
structure at this time. Furthermore, s/w such as gfzrnx is capable of
creating V3 filenames.

The IC, and participating DCs, would now like to see the V3 data more
fully integrated into IGS operations, as recommended at the IGS 2014
Workshop. This integration will make archive operations easier at the
DCs and encourage users to use data in V3 format. In order to do this
integration, we propose to start putting V3 data, using the long,
V3 filename specification, into the operational directory structure.

For example, at CDDIS we will begin archiving V3 data, in Hatanaka-
compressed format in the daily, hourly, and high-rate directory
structure, e.g.,:

ftp://cddis.gsfc.nasa.gov/gnss/data/daily/YYYY/DDD/YYd
ftp://cddis.gsfc.nasa.gov/gnss/data/hourly/YYYY/DDD/HH
ftp://cddis.gsfc.nasa.gov/gnss/data/highrate/YYYY/DDD/YYd/HH

Therefore, users will begin to see long filenames, with extension .crx in
these directories. Broadcast navigation files will also be archived using
the new filenames in the appropriate subdirectories.

We plan to institute these changes soon. We believe that this approach will
not cause users of the V2 data any difficulties, but if any WG members have
suggestions, concerns, please voice them now.

Regards,
Carey.
