BKG data center's point of view is as follows:

We have the question by several users, e.g., Swiss national mapping
agency, to accept .gz compressed files. Some station managers send
gz compressed files to BKG without formally agreement on that. The
reason to use .gz from perspective of these users are

-	'compress.exe' could not be started on modern Windows PCs
-	.gz compression could more easily be handled on Windows systems
-	some receiver firmware does not support .Z compression, but it
     does .gz
-	usage of .Z compression may require some extra work, e.g. ,
transfer the RINEX files as generated by the receiver to a Linux
platform in order to run the .Z compression, and after that, transfer
it back to the Windows system.

It seems reasonable for me to accept .gz files within IGS and
I recommend it! After a formal approval within IGS, BKG is willing
to make the necessary changes at the Data Center.

We appreciate any software tool for these new task that could be shared
within the IGS community.
