Dear Colleagues,

   I am sorry it has taken me so long to issue an update on the status
of the IGS Data Center Working Group.  Life has been quite busy since
the IGS Workshop in Ottawa in early April.  The concept of this working
group was presented during the workshop and was also discussed at the
IGS Governing Board meeting following the workshop.  The Governing Board
approved the creation of this working group as well as the proposed charter.

   I have set up a website for the group at http://cddisa.gsfc.nasa.gov/igsdc.
Here you will find the charter and membership list.  Angie Moore has
established an IGS email list for the working group; you have probably already
received a welcome message with subscription/unsubscription information.
Just send emails for the group to igs-dcwg at igscb.jpl.nasa.gov with the usual
Author: line as the first line of the message.  An archive of messages will
be maintained at the IGS Central Bureau web site (http://igscb.jpl.nasa.gov).

   Now that the group has been approved, the hard part begins.  It is time
to tackle some of those problems outlined in the charter.  I would like
to get the opinion of the group on how to proceed.  Some suggestions would
be to set up a user survey to determine how we doing and where we may
need improvement.  Also, the backup/redundant data flow paths need to be
a high priority; perhaps a mapping of the network/data flow topology could
be an initial effort here.

   Please let me know your thoughts and ideas; I think this working group
will be an effective way to ensure the data (and product) availability needs
of the user community are satisfied.
