The CDDIS archive will be unavailable starting June 21 at 10:00 EDT<br>
(14:00 UTC) for approximately 24 hours (however, as we all know,<br>
unforeseen problems could cause a longer outage). At that time, the<br>
system will be shut down in preparation for operations to transition<br>
to a new server environment. When the new systems are operational,<br>
users will continue to access host cddis.gsfc.nasa.gov through<br>
anonymous ftp and http and see the same archive structure. However,<br>
the IP number for the CDDIS host WILL CHANGE. Users should use the<br>
HOST NAME cddis.gsfc.nasa.gov and NOT THE IP NUMBER in their<br>
automated file retrieval scripts to the CDDIS.<br>

Groups who submit data and products to CDDIS will need to update<br>
their procedures to use host cddisin.gsfc.nasa.gov. These groups<br>
should have already received messages from me about this transition<br>
and should have supplied the IP numbers of any hosts they use to<br>
push files to CDDIS; if you have not contacted me with this<br>
information, you WILL NOT be able to deliver ANY DATA OR PRODUCT<br>
FILES after the transition. Therefore, please send me an email as<br>
soon as possible to coordinate the exchange of IP information. We<br>
will send a message to the community when data/products suppliers<br>
can being pushing files to the CDDIS host cddisin.gsfc.nasa.gov;<br>
this process may begin prior to the availability of the CDDIS<br>
archive to general users.<br>

We hope for a smooth transition to our new computer system on June<br>
21/22 and ask your cooperation in preparing your software to use the<br>
new incoming server. We will keep you posted as we implement the new<br>
system and when we are up for operations. Please contact me if you<br>
have any questions.<br>
